YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - One year to the day after a road rage shooting on Interstate 680 that left one person injured, the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the case has been sent to the prosecutor.
Officials from the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office confirm they have been given a report on the investigation into the March 29th, 2018 road rage shooting in Austintown.
On that day, Kailie Weimer of Austintown, who was 18-years-old at the time, was driving on the ramp from 680 northbound to I-80 west when a man allegedly opened fire on their car.
Weimer was shot once in the leg.
Authorities know at least one gunshot was fired at them on the interstate on Thursday at around 4:30 pm.
It happened around the ramp between 680 North and 80 West at the interchange near Austintown.
In the days following the shooting, a search warrant was carried out at a home on Buell Avenue in Campbell in connection to the shooting.
However, officials have never publicly identified a suspect or person of interest in the case.
The Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office could not comment on the nature of the report but says no one has been charged at this time.
