Continued impact of Tuesday's severe weather, flooding

Mahoning Valley - Many communities in the Mahoning Valley were left reeling Tuesday, after intense storms in the afternoon led to extreme flooding, power outages and more.
Issues arose after some portions of the Valley saw more than an inch of rain in the span of just a few hours.
In addition to heavy rain, the storm brought wind gusts, lightning and golf-ball sized hail in some areas.
Pictures of the storm and damage it caused can be seen here, SLIDESHOW: Severe weather.
The storm knocked out power for many in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Mercer Counties. At one point more than 4,000 were left in the dark.
Crews were working throughout the evening to get power restored, but as of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, more than 1,200 were still without power.
According to the First Energy website, some of those customers may not have their power restored until 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Boardman and Canfield seem to have been hit with particularly severe flooding and the Ohio Department of Transportation reports U.S. 224 is still closed just east of Lockwood Boulevard and State Route 165 between U.S. 62 and State Route 46.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers reported "major flooding" along Route 224, and the ramp onto State Route 11 Route 224 was closed for several hours.
Fire crews in Boardman and Canfield warned drivers to stay off of the road if possible and cautioned that a high number of the backroads in the area had experienced severe flooding in addition to 224 and South Avenue.
The parking lot at the Giant Eagle in Canfield held a roaring current at one point that didn't begin to subside until evening, and flooding was so severe throughout the community that the Canfield School District canceled school for Wednesday.

During the flooding, a Poland Township Trustee told 21 News, "It's flooding in places it's never flooded before."
Some people were unable to return to or remain at their homes as a result of the flooding.
Those people were offered shelter however, at an emergency shelter at the Canfield Presbyterian Church on West Main Street in Canfield.
