LEETONIA, Ohio - An unmanned garbage truck took off down a hill, smashing into a car and sending it into a Leetonia home.
Police Chief Allen Haueter says it happened sometime after noon at the top of the hill on Oak Street.
According to Haueter, the driver of the Aarrow Disposal truck says he got out of it to load some garbage when it took off. He told officials he did put the emergency brake on.
The garbage truck traveled through yards hit a fire hydrant and took out the Hair Designs by Cheryl's beauty shop sign before smashing into the car and sending it into the home, Haueter said.
No one was in the car that the garbage truck hit, but a front enclosed porch on the house was destroyed.
"I could not believe a trash truck was on top of another car and the car was just, you could hardly see the car," said Julia Vitko, who lives next door to the home that was hit.
"I couldn't believe it, it was like you only see that on HBO or something," said Cindy Hill, who witnessed the wreck. "It rattled my walls."
No one was injured in the crash, and no charges have been filed. Haueter said the truck is being inspected to see if the brake was faulty.
21 News reached out to Aarrow Disposal for comment, but have not heard back.
The Leetonia Police Department is investigating.
