Ohio Turnpike commission raises alarm on scam pretending to be tolling agencies
Called "smishing," scammers will randomly target phone numbers and ask for money for any unpaid tolls or toll violations, directing them to a website.

The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission has learned about a text messaging scam where someone is pretending to be a toll agencies requesting payment for "unpaid funds."
Called "smishing," scammers will randomly target phone numbers and ask for money for any unpaid tolls or toll violations, directing them to a website.
The Ohio Turnpike doesn't request payments from its E-Z Pass customers and collection of unpaid tolls or violations don't occur by text.
Those contacted by a number requesting payment this way should do the following:
- Contact the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center here.
- Include the phone number from where the text came from and list the website listed within the text.
- Check your account using the toll service's real website.
- Call the Ohio Turnpike's E-Z Pass customer service center at (440) 971-2222
- Delete any smishing texts
If you clicked any link or provided your information, secure you personal information and financial accounts.
Additionally, dispute any unfamiliar charges.
