PA Gov. Shapiro to make a stop in Lawrence County to discuss new insurance laws

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - One of the people believed to be a possible running mate for Kamala Harris will be in Lawrence County on Wednesday.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro will be in New Castle on, July 24, to discuss new laws that increase the transparency of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and cut costs.
Shapiro will be joined by Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys at The Hometown Pharmacy in New Castle at 11:30 a.m. to highlight their commitment to reforming PBMs.
Several other lawmakers will be present, including Sen. Michele Brooks and Reps. Valerie Gaydos and Jessica Benham.
Last week, according to a news release from Shapiro's office, Shapiro signed HB 1993, which provides stronger protections for patients and increases regulatory oversight of PBMs, the hidden "middlemen" of the pharmaceutical supply chain.
The bill gives the Pennsylvania Insurance Department the authority to regulate PBM practices and grants several protections to patients leading to lower out-of-pocket costs for prescription medication.
The event will be live-streamed here.
