Petition circulating to overturn marijuana sales ban in Hubbard

HUBBARD, Ohio - Like many communities, Hubbard has passed a ban on recreational cannabis. But unlike others who have passed bans, Hubbard already has one medical dispensary.
The team at ACA Dispensary, along with Councilman at large Michael Kerr, are not on board with this move. That's because medical dispensaries are first in line to get recreational licenses. And without one, ACA fears they will be squeezed out by neighboring communities.
In an open letter to the people of Hubbard, ACA says if the ban is not overturned, they will not be able to keep their doors open.
But they and opponents of the ban are pushing back with a petition to put the issue of recreational marijuana sales on the ballot this November. Kerr hopes this ban does not push another existing business out of Hubbard.
"We have some buildings that are leaving Hubbard, [...] the grocery store moved, things are closing down, revenue is a big issue," Kerr tells 21 News.
To appear on the ballot, the dispensary needs 100 signatures by August 6.
They are gathering signatures from Hubbard residents who are registered to vote in store or will have a representative meet up with anyone who calls to coordinate.
