The Pennsylvania National Guard's 107th Field Artillery Battalion dedicated the 75 millimeter howitzer on Wednesday.
Over the past two years, students from the Lawrence County Vocational School stripped paint from the 1918 howitzer, repaired damages and repainted it. While restoring the howitzer, the students read first hand accounts of the 107th's engagements during World War I.
In addition to the 107th's battalion headquarters, New Castle is also home to one of the National Guard's field maintenance shops. Approximately 120 National Guard soldiers are assigned to New Castle.
