Giant Eagle announced on Wednesday that it is removing from shelves, varieties of store brand bread that were produced at the Schwebel bakery in Youngstown.

Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donavan says the move is an added precaution being taken after Schwebel representatives have already removed all potentially affected Schwebel brand products from shelves as well.

There is no word on when the Schwebel Baking Company will resume production at its Youngstown bakery. Production was halted on Tuesday after the company discovered the presence of listeria during a routine inspection.

Schwebel is not characterizing the move as a recall, but according to the statement, the company is "voluntarily withdrawing" any potentially affected products.

"Although there is no evidence at this point that any of our consumers or products have been impacted, we are taking this action as a precautionary measure to assure that our products are safe, " said Paul Schwebel, President of Schwebel Baking Company.

The statement said that the company has no knowledge of a direct impact to its products and is working with FDA officials to determine if any further actions are required.

The pulled products can be identified by a code near the "best by" date. If the code begins with the letter, "A", the product is part of the voluntary withdrawal and should not be consumed.

The products were shipped directly to retail outlets, restaurants and institutions in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, New York, Michigan, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Anyone who has products in their possession that are part of the voluntary withdrawal should not consume them and should discard them or return them to where they were purchased

Schwebel said that anyone with questions concerning any possibly impacted products can call 1-800-860-2867, or visit the Schwebel's website.
