YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A tradition at St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown was held for those who lost their lives 73 years ago. During the service prayers were said for the souls of those who lost their lives in the Pearl Harbor attack and during World War II.

John E. Malys, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1423 Quartermaster said, "We have continued this for the past 72 years, so Pearl Harbor won't be forgotten, the lives lost that day, and during World War II for all the sacrifices made."

Andy Danus, the Commander of Post 1222 Catholic War Veterans of America said, "As the World War II veterans pass away, there is no one to remember them, so we must remember them. The sacrifices they and veterans have made gave us the freedoms we enjoy today. We need to keep their memories alive and well."

And as the number of World War II Veterans still alive continues to dwindle, it becomes even more important for all who believe those who don't learn from history are bound to repeat it. Our valley's bravest who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines took part in this remembrance as prayers were said for peace, and for the safety of our military men and women who are currently serving away from the comforts of home.
