Local officers will be collecting and destroying prescription drugs as part of "Operation: Empty Medicine Cabinet" today.

WARREN, Ohio - Local officers will be collecting and destroying prescription drugs as part of "Operation: Empty Medicine Cabinet" today.
Officers from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department, the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force (T.A.G.) and the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be collecting prescription drugs from 10 am to 6 pm.
The officers are accepting unused or expired drugs in original containers where they will count the medications and destroy them.
Officers are requesting that the bottles are dropped off at the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management facilities at 5138 Enterprise Drive in Warren off of Parkman Road, near the Route 5 bypass.
The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Opiate Task Force is sponsoring this program to limit the misuse of drugs that come from family's medicine cabinets.
The medications that will be accepted include pills, capsules, patches, gels, powders, ointments, syrups, vitamins, inhalers and pet meds.
Authorities request that you keep drugs in original containers or in sealed plastic bags.
Medications that will not be accepted include needles, syringes, lancets, thermometers, IV bags, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide, empty containers or illegal drugs.
The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District and the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board are also partners in this community event.
