The Howland man convicted in a deadly shooting has died while serving a life sentence for murder.

Trumbull County Prosecutors said Monday that 49-year-old Nasser Hamad the convicted killer died Saturday evening.

Trumbull County Judge Ronald Rice last year sentenced Hamad to 36 years to life in prison for fatally shooting two men and wounding three other people during a confrontation in front of his Route 46 home in February of last year.

In March, Judge Rice rejected a defense motion for parole based on claims that Hamad had terminal kidney cancer and needed better treatment than prison medical personnel could offer.

Hamad had been transferred between the Pickaway Correctional Institution and medical centers several times over the past few months.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction does not specify whether cancer caused Hamad's death, saying instead "Inmate Nasser Hamad's death was medically expected. The cause of death is tentative pending receipt of the death certificate."

Investigators say Hamad fatally shot 19-year-old Josh Haber and 20-year-old Joshua Williams during a confrontation outside his Niles-Cortland Road home on February 25.

Forty-three-year-old April Trent and 20-year-old Bryce Hendrickson were seriously injured in the shooting. A 17-year-old boy was not seriously harmed.
