WARREN, Ohio - A Warren Detective tells 21 News, there is a person of interest after an incident involving a shooting and a car crash left one dead.
The Trumbull County Coroner says an autopsy will be conducted in Cleveland on the body of a man who was shot before his car crashed into a house in Warren early Friday.
Just before 1 a.m., dispatchers were told of shots being fired in the area of Saratoga Street SW and Ferndale Ave. SW.
That police cruiser was quickly diverted to another call where a car had plowed through the side of a house less than a mile-and-a-half away on Tod Avenue SW near Palmyra Road.
When officers arrived at the crash, the front end of the car was inside the home. Smoke was coming from the car.
The man driving the car, 37-year-old Khalef Freeman was dead.
A a 25-year-old woman who was also in the car had to be rescued by firefighters using the jaws of life.
Police say the passenger in the car was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital with severe injuries. The victim's name or condition has not been released.
The woman told police that Freeman had been shot on Sweetbriar SW, which is near Saratoga and Ferndale SW., where police found a shell casing and broken glass.
No one in the home was injured.
Police said they are still asking those in the area to call with information about what they may have seen.
