LaBrae student recognized and celebrated for overcoming obstacles

WINDHAM, Ohio - Special recognition was paid to a LaBrae student Wednesday night.
BriAnna Saner was surprised with a special presentation and car parade after being nominated for an outstanding student award.
"She is a girl, a young lady that does not let anything get in her way," said Amy Frederick, the Director of Pupil Services at LaBrae. "She overcomes all obstacles no matter what is in front of her. She will find a way to get around it, get through it, work through it and achieve great things."
One by one the cars lined up, honked their horns in honor of BriAnna. Some gave gifts, and there were also signs of encouragement.
"Throughout the years she's worked extremely hard in every aspect of life, academically, physically, emotionally, socially and she has really, really put a lot of warmth into our hearts here at the school," Frederick said.
The junior at LaBrae was nominated for the R.A. Horn award, which recognizes outstanding achievement for students with a disability.
"It just feels so good to know that you have so much support behind you," Saner said.
At a young age, BriAnna was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsey and a learning disability. Barriers that she was determined to bust through.
"I try to work so hard to make everyone happy and proud and I'm just constantly worried about my grades, making sure they stay at a high level like A's and B's," Saner said.
Saner now has a 3.8 GPA, runs cross country, is a member of National Honor Society and works with others who are challenged by disabilities.
"Because of her perseverance and her dedication to not let anything come in her way, I think its important she sets that example for other people," Frederick said. "She sets a great example but to be able to work with them and show our other students what a great achiever she is and how she overcomes those obstacles is great."
A proud community celebrating someone who has overcome tremendous adversity to become an outstanding student.
