Former YSU Football wide receiver killed in Youngstown crash

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police have identified the victim in a deadly crash in Youngstown overnight Sunday.
Police said the accident happened just before midnight near the intersection of Albert Street and McGuffey Road.
Police said they were trying to stop a 19-year-old driver for a traffic violation at Albert Street and the Himrod Expressway Exit.
According to officers, he was trying to flee northbound when he crashed into a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Darius Shackleford.
Shackleford was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shackleford was a wide receiver for the YSU Penguins and was a member of the program from 2015-2020.
The 19-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger were apprehended at the scene.
