Mercer Co. communities receive $5.7M grants, loans for water, sewer improvements

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Three communities in Mercer County have been awarded $5.7 million in grants and loans to improve water and sewer infrastructure.
State Representative Mark Longetti (Mercer-D) announced on Friday that a state grant of nearly $4.1 million will fund a major overhaul of Greenville’s water distribution system, including replacement of the aging, corroded pipes used to supply the borough’s drinking water.
The funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority will allow the Greenville Water Authority to replace existing cast iron and lead pipes with 9,600 feet of new main.
The project will also include the construction and installation of new fire hydrants, service lines, connections, valves, and related upgrades.
Two other Mercer County communities will receive a total of $1,675,000 in grants and loans from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, according to Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler)
Perry Township will receive a loan of $37,997 and a grant of $1,168,103 for the installation of 4,800 feet of low-pressure sewer mains, 17 pump units, and one pump station.
The Borough of Jackson Center will also receive a loan of $468,900 to design a replacement wastewater treatment plant.
