Southern Park Mall to host pasta sauce competition
Various local Italian restaurants will bring their award-winning sauces for a pasta taste test where visitors are encouraged to vote on their favorites.

The Southern Park Mall will be place to be for Italian food lovers on Sunday, Aug. 22 at their Sunday Sauce Showdown event.
Starting at 6:30 p.m.,
Participating restaurants will include Antone's Kitchen, Bogey's Bar & Grill, Cafe 422, Carchedi's Cafe, Donavito's Restaurant and Catering, Red Plum Pizza and Pasta, Salvatore's Italian Grill, Station Square, Sunrise Inn of Warren and Tito's Italian Kitchen.
In addition, Greene Eagle Winery, L'Uva Bella and Woodland Cellars will be participating in the event offering wine samples for all attendees.
Other attractions include a live performance from The Avanti Band from Cleveland, as well as a basket raffle which will benefit Potential Development School for Students with Autism.
The event will also feature appearances from celebrity judges including 27 WKBN anchor, Stan Boney, Judge Scott Krichbaum, Kelly Warren of Kell Warren & Associates, Jim Taylor, Vice President of Western Reserve Building Trades and Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Trificanti, who will all be voting for their favorite sauces.
Tickets will be $25 per person and can be purchased through Eventbrite.com. Each ticket will include a sample of each restaurants' pasta. three samples of wine from each winery, salad provided by Mia Emilia and other refreshments. Tickets cannot be purchased at the door.
In addition to the basket raffle, proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Potential Development. Brian Gabbert, General Manager of Southern Park Mall is excited to host this event and raise money for Potential Development.
"The Valley takes such pride in its sauces, so what better way to raise some money for a good cause than with a friendly competition to see who has the best," Gabbert said.
