Purple Heart raises money for homeless and in need veterans.

The local chapter of the Military order of the Purple Heart held a fundraising raffle at their tent at the Canfield Fair on Monday. Members were giving away a free television that was donated by the Meijer's Company.

Chapter 606 of the Purple Heart is raising money for veterans who are experiencing homelessness or are generally in need. They are also looking to put together a 1,000 dollar scholarship for individuals if there is a Purple Heart in their bloodline.

Leo H. Connelly Jr., Senior Vice Commander of the Department of Ohio Military Order of the Purple Heart and Senior Vice Commander of Local Chapter 606 says the community support has been amazing.

"I'm overwhelmed by their community and their generosity. Especially when it comes to the Purple Heart, for some one to spill blood for your country or sacrifice, and when I say the sacrifice of those 14 who just died, people line up here. We don't have enough ink to write for the tickets," says Connelly.

The organization also laid out 14 flags and a kneeling soldier by a cross to remember the 14 soldiers who have died in the past 30 days.

Connelly assures that everyone in the organization are volunteers and that all of the money goes to their veteran "brothers and sisters."
