After President Biden's pledge to join other nations in tapping oil reserves, Valley Congressman and U.S. Senate Candidate Tim Ryan (D) spoke about the issue after he campaigned in Salem as part of his workers first tour on Tuesday.

"Getting into the strategic oil reserves is going to be very important," said Ryan. "And also passing this tax cut for families is going to be huge to try to absorb some of the impact of inflation."

Republicans have said that any benefit from releasing the oil reserves will be short-lived.

The GOP's consensus is that there needs to be policy measures that they claim will "encourage" the production of American energy resources as compared to energy policies that existed during the Trump administration.

Biden's policy joins additional countries like the U.K., Japan, India, China and South Korea to tap into oil reserves as natural gas prices remain high all over the globe.
