YOUNGSTOWN - The number of COVID-19 positive cases at Youngstown State University reached its highest levels since the university began keeping track in August of 2020.

Numbers released on the YSU COVID Dashboard on Monday showed 131 cases during the week of January 2.

Among those cases, 29 were YSU employees; 91 were students who live off-campus, and 11 live on the campus.

That's more than double the 53 cases that were reported between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The largest number of cases reported since the university began keeping track of COVID was 67 during the week of December 5, 2020.

The record numbers came as students returned to in-person classes for the semester.
