BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - Police have released details about a pursuit witnessed by commuters along Interstate 680 in Boardman and Beaver Townships Wednesday afternoon.

It began when employees of the Doral Drive Walmart told police that a man walked out of the store with a 43-inch TV without paying for it.

Store security told police the man drove away in a utility truck, which was spotted by police shortly after along Island drive in Poland.

When the truck refused to be pulled over, police began chasing it along a route that included Delaware Avenue, Youngstown Poland Road, and Route 224.

When the chase reached Interstate 680, Several cruisers had joined, including those from Boardman.

According to the police report, after passing Western Reserve road, the truck turned around.

By the time the truck got back to the Western Reserve Road ramp, police say it was spewing so much smoke, some cruisers had to break off the pursuit because of the oil spraying from the truck.

Police say the truck slowed down to 25 miles per hour before stopping.  The driver jumped out and ran up an embankment along the interstate.

An officer chased the suspect through briers, over a barbed-wire fence, and through a yard before the man was caught along South Avenue Extension.

Police say they found the TV in the truck and returned it to Walmart.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jacob Feltrop of Negley was booked into jail on charges of fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, and obstruction of Justice.

Since police say he had a syringe in his pocket, Feltrop was also charged with possession of drug abuse instruments.

Feltrop is scheduled to answer the charges in Mahoning County Court in Boardman Thursday afternoon.
