A truck hauling a 249-ton cargo from New York to Lawrence County, Pennsylvania is now in Ohio.

Pennsylvania State Police tell 21 News that the so-called "superload" arrived at a now-closed rest stop along westbound Interstate 80 just over the state line at around 2 a.m. Friday.  The truck will remain parked at the rest stop until it resumes its journey on Saturday.

It's part of a 400-mile trek from West Milton, New York, to Wampum Pennsylvania, traveling at speeds less than 30 mph.

The superload traveled through Venango County, Pennsylvania late Thursday, entering Mercer County along Route 62, traveling through Sandy Lake Borough then south to Interstate 80, where it moved westward into Ohio.

The tractor-trailer is carrying a steel tank from a decommissioned nuclear testing site, and upon delivery at Alaron Corporation, a waste management service, will be disassembled and recycled.

According to Hubbard Township officials, plans call for the nearly 300-ton rig to leave Interstate 80 at exit 234A on Saturday, travel down U.S. Route 62, onto Ohio SR 616, and make a left on U.S. 422, all before reaching Interstate 376 in Pennsylvania.

"The mayor told me the city is going shut down the square just for people to be aware that's going to be a hard way to travel around 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. by the time it hits 422.", said Rick Hernandez, Hubbard Township trustee.

He also doesn't foresee any issues for township residents.

"We don't have any concerns about the tank leaking or being any detriment to the community."
