Slick road spots in Columbiana County, ODOT asking people to stay home

Freezing rain made for a few slick spots in Columbiana County this morning, prompting the street department to fill their salt trucks and get moving.
"We started around four o' clock this morning is when the roads started to freeze up," said Jesse Wilson, Columbiana street superintendent. "We've been treating ever since. Just straight salt, trying to look ahead right now. We're actually in pretty good shape, the roads are all just wet," he said.
As the day continued, Columbiana main roads started to look a lot more passable, but weather conditions were persistent in washing their efforts away.
ODOT crews also jumped in, saying their hands were full with working 12 hour shifts and keeping up with the weather as much as they can.
"It's been a you know, minute by minute type thing because this weather has been changing so quickly but you know, they're adjusting their salt spread," said Lauren Borell. "If they need to plow they'll plow but, it's just all in what happens. You know, we'll make adjustments and do what we need to do," she said.
ODOT begged people to stay off the roads for safety concerns but some found it necessary to leave their homes.
"I had to get a few groceries, presecription," said Joyce Kissinger of Lisbon.
"I started to do some cooking and I just needed a couple supplies," said Carla Elenz of Columbiana.
As the snow continues to move in this evening, ODOT will have their 17 trucks out plowing and salting, as well as the street department doing the same with their trucks.
There is currently a parking ban in place in the county to allow these trucks to do their jobs more efficiently. Right now, both entities are asking everyone be patient, while they treat the roads.
