Slow-moving storm brings another winter wallop to the Valley

From the sights, to the sounds, to the struggles - you name it, this winter storm brought it.
It started as a wintry mix Thursday morning and early afternoon.
A semi jackknifed on I-680 causing headaches for folks headed north out of Youngstown.
The slicks roads capsized an SUV not far away.
And that was before it was snowing everywhere.
In Champion at Routes 305 and 45, our crew encountered a pronounced change in conditions and the type of precipitation as they came up Route 11. The sleet/snow mix in Youngstown changed over to all snow, the visibility started to get bad and the winds became very blustery as well.
It affected the strategy of ODOT crews trying to minimize the road impacts.
"There's constant communication between the plows out on the road and our crews in the garage," said ODOT district 4 spokesman Ray Marsch. "They'll relay into our crews and say 'hey you have potential for snow coming' and they'll change up what we're dropping, how much we're dropping."
In Niles, we saw a few folks pushing cars that sputtered up hills.
The snow stole the show last in Columbiana County, where the wintry mix lasted later into the day.
"I'll tell you the truth we pray for snow cause at least you got something to drive on," said Frank Phillips of Leetonia. "This stuff, if it freezes, no one's driving on it, two wheel or four wheel, don't matter."
The storm is expected to continue to bring light snow to the Valley into midday Friday along with much colder temps.
