YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Newly released audio from the officer-involved shooting in Youngstown has provided new details on the traffic stop and chase that led to the death of the suspect.

According to radio traffic from Struthers police, the incident started as a traffic stop on State Street in Struthers. The suspect allegedly tried to hit the police cruiser at a drive-thru before driving away with the officer following behind.

The chase moved from State Street to the Center Street bridge before turning onto East Cherry Street, South Blaine Avenue and then westbound onto Wilson Avenue.

The officer continued the pursuit onto Himrod Avenue and then onto U.S. 62 West and I-680 North.

The suspect got off I-680 North near Oneta Avenue and traveled north on Steel Street until the pursuit ended at the intersection with Salt Springs Road.

As the pursuit ends, an officer can be heard saying that the suspect pulled a gun and that shots were fired.

The officer on the radio says the white male suspect has been shot and tells the dispatcher to send Youngstown police. A number of police officers and ambulances converged on the scene following the shooting.

The suspect died at the scene.

21 News reached out to Struthers Police about the identity of the suspect but they said the coroner's investigation is ongoing.

Per protocol, the officers involved in the shooting are on leave until the incident has been investigated.
