YOUNGSTOWN - City council members who represent the two wards on Youngstown’s West Side are hosting a community input meeting Monday on the Mahoning Avenue Improvement Project.

Fifth Ward council member Lauren McNally and Fourth Ward council member Mike Ray are inviting residents to see the preliminary improvement plans for Mahoning Avenue and offer their comments on the proposed $3.7 million project.

The Fourth Ward covers Mahoning Avenue from I-680 to Schenley Avenue.  The Fifth Ward runs from Schenley to Meridian Road.

The meeting is Monday evening at 5 p.m., at the West Side Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Avenue.

The City of Youngstown announced late last month that it plans to undertake a $3.7 million project to resurface more than two miles of Mahoning Avenue between Glenwood Avenue and Meridian Road.

In addition to the resurfacing, the project would include new traffic control signs, pavement, and drainage repairs, as well as manhole adjustments, new concrete walkways, curbs, and ramp installations.

Work, which would begin in the summer of 2024, would take place while two-way traffic is maintained.

The city is seeking public comment on the environmental and other possible impacts of the project.
