HUBBARD, Ohio - The Hubbard School district worked together over the last month to raise money for a staff member battling cancer.
Students and staff members gathered up and donated loose change to the Pennies for Mrs. Mahoney campaign.
The fundraiser was a friendly competition that raised more than $14,000 for school employee Donna Mahoney, who is battling kidney and adrenal gland cancer.
Students and staff members could also pay a dollar each week to participate in theme days like pajama day, crazy hair day, mismatch day and wear red day.
The Hubbard Elementary Parent Association also hosted a carnival for elementary students and families with all proceeds going to Mahoney.
The parent association will present a check to her Tuesday afternoon with students parading through the school and to Mahoney's desk to drop off cards to her.
