WARREN, Ohio - Police say they found an open liquor bottle and crack pipe inside the car of a Warren woman involved in a traffic accident that injured her three grandchildren.

Warren Police say that 53-year-old Nichole Thomas was driving a car that went left of center at Elm Road NE and Larchmont NE Tuesday evening, running into another car.

Thomas’s 5-year-old granddaughter suffered a major injury, according to the police report.  A nine-year-old granddaughter and a 6-year-old grandson had minor injuries.  All three children were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center. One of the children suffered a possible concussion, according to the report.

Police report that Thomas had slurred speech and the odor of alcohol on her breath.

In addition, they say they found a crack pipe in the car, and a second crack pipe in a pack of cigarettes that Thomas had allegedly placed outside the car.

On the floor of the car was an open, nearly empty liquor bottle, according to police.

Thomas, who denied taking drugs or drinking, refused a blood-alcohol test at the hospital, according to the police report.

The children were turned over to the care of their grandfather.

Appearing in Warren Municipal Court via video on Wednesday, Thomas pleaded not guilty to three counts of child endangering, possessing drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, having an open container, driving under the influence, and driving left of center.

The bond was set at $3,500 and she was ordered to have no contact with the children.

Another court hearing is set for August 25.
