Too hot for football in August??

LEETONIA, Ohio - The high school football regular season kicks off in seven weeks.
Six games are scheduled for Thursday, August 18, the earliest the regular season has ever started in Ohio.
"There were times out first scrimmage was then," stated Leetonia football coach John Protopapa, a veteran coach of more than thirty years.
"We're going to have three games in before Labor Day and it ends October 21. I think it starts way too soon," he continued.
First year East Palestine coach Mike Demster says safety is a concern with the August heat.
"When your playing that early you have to make sure your guys are hydrated and conditioned."
The early season also means a sooner start to practice which cuts into the summer.
'We want to make sure they have some fun. Spend time with family, take a vacation," said Demster.
Official practice begins August 1 but teams use their allotted camp days in June or July.
Still Protopapa would like to see a change.
"Football is made to be played in the cold and we don't play it then."
