Local motorcyclists and other volunteers are needed for a four day Vietnam Veteran memorial event coming to Hermitage.

The Moving Wall is a half-size replica of Washington D.C.'s Vietnam Memorial. The wall has been touring the public for nearly forty years, with the goal of educating the public and remembering Vietnam Veterans.

The sponsor of the event, non-profit Avenue of 444 Flags, is requesting a community motorcycle escort to bring The Moving Wall from West Middlesex to Hermitage.

Motorcyclists who would like to participate in the escort should sign up here, and meet at the Park Inn by Radisson at 3366 New Castle Road, West Middlesex, PA 16159 by 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, August 25th.

From there, the wall will travel to Hermitage, where it will will be on display near the John Flynn Funeral Home at 2690 E. State Street, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Once it arrives, the wall will be set up and open for public viewing 24 hours a day, from 2 p.m. Thursday, August 25th, to 8 a.m. Monday, August 29th. An opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on the 25th.

Over the course of the event, several organizations will set up to offer resources and educational material to veterans and other visitors. That includes the Butler VA Hospital, the Erie Vet Center, and Mercer County Veteran Affairs.

Beside motorcyclists, other volunteers are needed to assemble and disassemble the wall and assist event visitors. If you are interested in volunteering, click here or contact Bradley Alan with the Mercer County Veteran Affairs Office at 724-662-7511.

Admission is free. Parking will be available beside the wall, off of Fairmont Drive. Entrance to the event parking will be through Flynn's Funeral Home off of Rexford Drive. There will also be reserved parking spaces for those with handicaps.
