Suspect in South Avenue gas station shooting indicted on murder, weapons charges
According to the indictment, Byrd is a 'repeat violent offender.'

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The suspect of a shooting at the Shell gas station on South Avenue in June of 2022 was indicted Thursday on murder and weapons charges.
Sixty-nine-year-old Samuel Byrd was indicted on one count of Aggravated Murder with firearm specifications and one count of Having Weapons While Under Disability for the murder of 29-year-old Keimone Black on June 15.
According to the indictment, Byrd is a "repeat violent offender."
Youngstown police were called out to the gas station around 3:00 a.m. on June 15. Police say that Black was shot several times, and his body was found next to a car that had numerous bullet holes.
Police believe this to be a targeted shooting.
