An already rescheduled video court arraignment for a once-prominent former Warren attorney had to be delayed a second time after authorities say she refused to leave her jail cell for the second day in a row.

Maridee Costanzo, 64, had been scheduled to appear in front of a camera inside the Trumbull County Jail Friday morning to answer one count of permitting drug abuse.

However, a court notation said that Costanzo again refused to leave her cell on Friday, as she did on Thursday as well.

So for a third time, the video arraignment has been reset, this time for Monday morning at Costanzo's request.

Another court notation said that Judge Thomas Gysegem would consider a written not guilty plea from Costanzo.

Costanzo was booked into the jail late Wednesday morning three weeks after a warrant was issued for her arrest for failing to appear in court.

The charge was filed after police came to Costanzo’s Genesee Ave NE home where someone had overdosed on drugs and was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Police note in their report that they have records of four overdoses at the home over the past three months.

Once a well-known defense attorney in Trumbull County, Costanzo was sentenced to eight years in federal prison in 2005 for trying to hire someone to kill her husband.

In 2013, Costanzo wrote a letter to the federal judge who sentenced her, saying she was turning her life around, working to obtain a master’s degree in substance abuse and chemical dependency counseling.

Four years later, authorities from Geauga County searched Costanzo’s Genesee Avenue NE home as part of an investigation into stolen property.

Costanzo ended up pleading guilty to one count of receiving stolen property and was sentenced to probation for two years.
