Gazebo on the Green in Canfield demolished

CANFIELD, Ohio - After standing for almost 60 years, the gazebo on the green in Canfield is pushed over to make way for a new one.
"It's been there for a long time, it's deteriorated, and it's smaller than what everybody wanted," Paul Scherba, construction manager for the Rotary Club of Canfield.
The original gazebo was built in the 1800s and torn down in the 1950s when it was replaced for the first time.
Construction starts in two weeks on its replacement.
The new gazebo will be 8 feet wider, making more space for events like the traditional lighting of the green, gatherings, and entertainers.
"The new one is going to look very similar to this one; we wanted to keep the integrity," he said.
The project is funded through donations gathered by the Rotary Club of Canfield.
The overall cost is estimated at $250,000. The rotary just got the building permit on Wednesday.

Construction costs include $130,000 for the general contractor, $30,000 for new lighting and a $30,000 sound system. Donations from BSHM Architects, Boak & Sons roofing, R&J Trucking, and the city of Canfield are helping to make it happen.
The rotary is working to secure more donations. It has gathered about half of the overall funding needed to pay for the project.
Each year rotary clubs donate a portion of the money they raise to Rotary International. The gazebo project was awarded some funding from the organization's international arm.
The new gazebo should completely finished in two to three months.
