1997: Youngstown Mayor Patrick Ungaro says the Mahoning County Fraud Task Force should have its tactics investigated because it has hired retired city employees who are conducting a political vendetta.
Herman Maas, manager of the General Motors Lordstown plant, sets a quality goal for the plant that would move the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire to the top of the J.D. Powers list.
The 136-year-old Messiah Holiness Church of God on Elm Street across from St. Columba Cathedral suffers heavy damage in a fire. The former Elm Street Congregational Church was under renovation.
1982: A softball team outing ended in tragedy when a car slammed into a hay wagon in Route 88 near Bristolville in Trumbull County, killing Nadine Foster, 25, of Warren and injuring seven others.
Warren Safety Service Director Stephen Papalas says the overtime bill for policing rallies in support of striking employees of Trumbull Memorial Hospital has exceeded $9,000.
Mahoning County Sheriff James A. Traficant Jr. calls on the Mahoning County Bar Association to investigate Atty. Don Hanni Jr. for possible misconduct in seeking a probate court inquiry into Traficant's mental fitness.
1972: Warren Mayor Arthur Richards sends letters to political candidates reminding them that the display of campaign signs in the city is illegal.
Three Rayen football players who struck and kicked Chaney players during a game that was suspended by referees will not be permitted to play this weekend. Coach Patrick Ungaro is reprimanded by Superintendent Robert Pegues for a lack of bench control.
