The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Trumbull County that claimed the life of one person and knocked out power to several hundred homes and businesses early Friday.

Around 1:30 a.m. emergency crews were called out to the 800 block of Tibbetts Wick Road in Liberty.

The driver, Adam Connelly, 21, of Liberty Township, was operating a white 2015 Dodge Charger westbound on Tibbetts Wick Rd.

According to the report, Connelly failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the right side of the roadway, and struck a utility pole. The vehicle caught fire and was extinguished by Liberty Township Fire Department upon their arrival on the scene. Mr. Connelly died of his injuries at the scene.

The road was closed for nearly three hours because of downed power lines.

At one point, FirstEnergy reported about 600 customers were without power, with a majority of them in Girard and Liberty.

Liberty Township Fire Department, Liberty Township Police Department, and Girard City Police Department assisted at the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
