House passes bill to name Salem post office after World War II veteran

SALEM, Ohio - The Penn Avenue post office in Salem is on track to be renamed for a World War II Tuskegee Airman and Salem native.
Following the U.S. House's decision to pass legislation proposed by Representative Bill Johnson regarding the renaming of the post office, it is now up for the Senate to decide if the post office will be designated to Corporal Howard Arthur Tibbs.
Tibbs served in the units of the 99th Fighter Squadron and the 477th Medium Composite Group, according to the press release.
"Corporal Howard Arthur Tibbs played an important role in both defending America and advancing our nation to create a more perfect union," said Rep. Bill Johnson. "I am proud that the post office on Penn Avenue in Salem is on track to be renamed in honor of this exceptionally deserving Ohioan."
Tibbs posthumously received the Congressional Gold Medal for his military contributions in 2007.
