Testimony began Tuesday in the trial of a 64 year old Warren man accused of forcing his way into a young woman's car at knife point at a Champion Township Car Wash on June 4th.

David Honzu is charged with three counts of kidnapping, robbery and tampering with evidence.

According to police the woman was able to escape her car, unharmed.

Honzu elected to go on trial without a jury. Visiting judge Gary Yost will hear testimony and render his own verdict.

After this case, Honzu will go to trial in a separate case in December.
This stems from a 2007 cold case where recent DNA testing of an old rape kit allegedly came up with a match for David Honzu.

In that trial, he faces charges of kidnapping with a sexual motivation and two counts of rape.

Prosecutors say Hozu has a long extensive criminal history of being a serial rapist.

in 2016 he was sentenced to a year and a half in prison after being convicted of attempted abduction of a woman who was jogging in Champion. In 1996 he was convicted of rape in Trumbull County and spent 12 years in prison for it.

Testimony will continue at the Trumbull County courthouse Wednesday at 9am.
