A Lisbon woman has been sentenced on Friday for her role in the death of her newborn son just one day after his birthday.

Twenty-four-year-old Rebecca Young had pled guilty to felony charges of involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, tampering with evidence and gross abuse of a corpse.

Young was sentenced to nine to 13 years in prison on these charges.

The charges stem from Young's role in the death of her newborn son just one day after he was born in July of 2020 and her attempts at hiding evidence.

Columbiana County Prosecutors, Steve Yacovone and Tammie Jones worked together on this case.

Yacovone tells 21 News the cause of the infant's death was ruled as "asphyxiation with caregiver in attention / neglect" and that there was evidence that Young tried to factory reset her phone before authorities arrived to her home.

Yacovone says searches for case law regarding gross abuse of a corpse was found in Young's search history.

"It's a horrible case, something like this ... It's a tragedy, but we feel at least some semblance of justice was done for the victim," Yacovone said.
