CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Guardians have announced that the baseball club’s iconic drummer, John Adams has passed away.
According to a statement issued by the team on Monday, John has been with the club since its time at Cleveland Municipal stadium, banging his drum for nearly 50 years.
Adams, who was inducted into the team's Distinguished Hall of Fame, attended more than 3,700 games.
The club commissioned a replica bronze drum affixed to a bench in Heritage Park behind the center field wall at Progressive Field.
Adams' health kept him away from the ballpark in recent seasons.
At the home opener in 2021, Patrick Carney, drummer for The Black Keys, the Grammy Award-winning rock duo from Akron, sat in for Adams.
