The morning after his office issued an urgent evacuation notice for East Palestine, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine came to the village to discuss the status of the emergency.

DeWine could be seen accompanied by State Troopers at the East Palestine High School football field at around 10 a.m. Monday.

The visit comes just hours after DeWine issued a warning that that those living within 1 mile of the fiery rail tanker derailment must evacuate.

Officials reported late Sunday that a drastic temperature change took place in a rail car, resulting in the potential of what was described as a catastrophic tanker failure which could cause an explosion with the potential of deadly shrapnel traveling up to a mile.

DeWine activated the Ohio National Guard to deploy to the scene to assist local authorities.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Emergency Management Agency, and Ohio EPA are also assisting.
