A Youngstown man whose arrest video in Farrell caused some anger on social media has been sent to Mercer County Common Pleas Court for trial.

Ten charges against 27-year-old Aries Shaw were held for court following a hearing before a district magistrate on Thursday.

Shaw’s mother as well as Bishop Melvin Baker, Founder & Pastor at Temple of Praise Cathedral in Farrell, expressed outrage after video circulated online of Shaw’s altercation with Farrell police during his arrest in January.

Police arrested Shaw in connection with an alleged assault near the intersection of Bond and Hoon Streets in Farrell.

"Mr. Shaw was tased and struck by officers in order to terminate his continuing and active resisting arrest," said Mercer County District Attorney Pete Acker in a statement. "Mr. Shaw at one point asserted that he could not breathe. After his arrest, Mr. Shaw was examined by EMTs who found no significant injuries nor any inability to breathe."

Shaw is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault, assault, and several drug charges.
