Austintown man who killed 10-week-old son sentenced to 15 years to life in prison
An Austintown man convicted of killing his 10-week old son has been sentenced in court Monday morning.
Prosecuting Attorney, Caitlyn Andrews tells 21 News 34-year-old Nicholas Tigges was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to one count of murder.
Andrews explained that under Ohio law, this is the only sentence for murder charges.
The charge stems from an incident from late April of 2022, when Tigges's son was taken to Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman with a swollen head at just four weeks old.
Tigges told a social worker that when he was putting the baby to bed, he was "acting fussy" and "making weird noises." Police say the boy had multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds and that this appeared to be non-accidental.
Months later, the boy died of his injuries at 10-weeks old.
