Youngstown Police holding event to help job candidates access police academy training

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Police Department will be holding an event to assist those looking for a job in law enforcement, but don't have access to the police academy.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Youngstown Police station located at 116 West Boardman Street in Youngstown.
YPD Community Liason, Malik Mostella tells 21 News he understands that there are plenty of people who want to work in law enforcement, but may not be able to access the police academy.
Meanwhile the department is dealing with staffing issues that could potentially be solved by helping these people out.
"We're to the point where we, like any other department in the country, are understaffed, so we're looking to bring our numbers back up to full staff," Mostella said.
Mostella says there are agencies out there that can help fund for people who can't afford to go to the police academy.
At this event, attendees will be put in touch with one of these agencies and be given information on who to get in touch with to register for the fall academies at either Youngstown State University or Kent State University's Trumbull County campus.
YPD will also be teaching attendees about how taking the police academy test works.
