Youngstown council punts ambulance study to safety committee

Youngstown city council took another look at whether to start its own ambulance service during its meeting Wednesday afternoon. The agenda included a measure to set aside $50,000 for a feasibility study on that.
In the end, council moved the measure to the safety committee, but the conversation continues.
Mayor Brown says there are several possibilities for the future, despite having recently entered into a three year contract with Emergency Medical Transport.
"Are we going to continue trying to supplement someone, would we have to try maybe a third service, or we may be looking at some co-op opportunities," Mayor Brown said. "We want to explore all options and we don't want to wait until three years later and say 'let's look at it then'."
Other business at Wednesday's meeting included council paying $250,000 for work on those faulty fire escapes in city hall.
They approved more than $1 million in ARP money for new sidewalks and pedestrian safety improvements.
Council also will spend more than $600,000 on new water lines along Canfield Road.
