Wire down cuts power along Route 224, slows turnpike traffic in Canfield
A downed power line snarled traffic on part of the Ohio Turnpike and cut electricity to hundreds in Canfield.
Dispatchers received calls of outages along Route 224 between Racoon and Tippecanoe Roads at around 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Canfield firefighters were dispatched to the turnpike below the Route 224 overpass where the sparking power line was found on the road.
Westbound traffic was slowed down along the turnpike while troopers and firefighters waited for an Ohio Edison crew to make repairs. Traffic was also restricted on Route 224 by first responders.
Ohio Edison arrived on the scene just after 4:30 a.m. when 600 outages were being reported.
By 5:00 am, power to half of those impacted had been restored. However, some businesses were reporting a "haze" in buildings.
