LIBERTY TWP, Ohio - The victim of a shootout in Liberty Township from June of 2022 has died.

The Trumbull County Coroner's Office has confirmed with 21 News that 21-year-old Zachary Woods had died. However, the cause of death has not been determined yet.

Woods was shot in the face by 55-year-old Kevin Mallard (pictured above) in broad daylight while in his vehicle on Belmont Avenue in Liberty Township during a road rage incident.

Mallard was recently sentenced to 68 to 73 years in prison on four counts of attempted murder with firearm specifications, one count of inducing panic with firearm specifications, one count of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle with firearm specifications and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.

Prosecutors say at this point, they're unsure if murder will be added to that list of charges stating that Mallard will already spend the rest of his life in prison regardless, and that they're waiting for the cause of death to be determined by the coroner's office before even considering adding any additional charges.
