As the auto industry continues preparing for an eventual all electric vehicle(EV) world,  a local school is looking at how to get better prepared.

At the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC), 21 News reporter Leslie Huff found them focusing on training and curriculum that will help students work and stay safe in the EV industry.

The Director of the Ohio Department of Development visited CCCTC to meet with school officials and local car dealership owners to discuss the need for training programs and funds to support it.

A proposed $8 million electric vehicle training center will help teach students how to maintain and repair electric vehicles.

"Repairing the electric vehicles and those components will be different than the combustion engine and [we also want to make sure] that the students understand all of those skills and competencies that they will need to do that," Jessica Borza, executive director of the Mahoning Valley Manufacturer Coalition said.

CCCTC director Jeremy Corbisello, said they are in the early stages of forming the program, but the first lesson for students will be safety, as they will undergo safety and health hazard training.

Corbisello said industry leaders are a developing a safety curriculum for the program and hope to break ground on the training center in 2025.
