COLUMBUS, Ohio - An emergency meeting has been scheduled in Columbus Friday morning to determine the legality of the ongoing strike from the Youngstown Education Association (YEA).

According to documents obtained from the Ohio State Employment Relations Board (SERB), the emergency meeting has been scheduled for Friday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. on the 12th floor of SERB's office (65, East State St., Columbus).

During the meeting parties and their representatives will be presenting their positions and arguments in writing and orally before the Board. Each party will have a maximum of 30 minutes to present their positions, and the Board may provide rebuttal time.

Both parties have until 3:00 p.m. Thursday to file a petition statement and/or supporting material.

Tensions are high between the district and the union regarding the legality of the strike with the district arguing that it's illegal because a fact finding process in which an independent third party speaks to both parties attempting to find a resolution never took place.

If the strike is found to be illegal, teachers could be forced back into the classroom. As it stands, YCSD students are set to start remote learning on Friday.
