SLIDESHOW: Niles Mayor releases renderings of new Waddell Park splash pad, playground
Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz has released renderings for a new splash pad and playground coming to Waddell Park.
The splash pad will be built at the former site of the community pool building, which closed in 2014 and was demolished in 2022 in preparation for the new splash pad.
According to a post on Mayor Mientkiewicz's Facebook page, this project was part of a $2.5 million improvement grant for the park. The criteria design phase of the project was recently completed, which included concept design, scope of work and preliminary budget.
Mayor Mientkiewicz says the next phase is the design and build phase with detailed design, construction schedule and hard costs.
Niles Park Supervisor, Mark Pallante says this project is still in its early stages and that the city is currently in the process of hiring a team to come up with what the splash pad, playground, gazebo and turf will actually look like.
This team is expected to begin working within the next two to three weeks.
Pallante tells us the city is hoping to have the splash pad, playground and gazebo all finished by July of 2024. The area will be handicap accessible.
You can take a look at the preview renderings in the slideshow above.
