Update: Austintown Fitch stadium and training facility progress
The next phase of a massive athletic complex for the Austintown school district is underway. When all is complete, it'll be a $15 million facility that will reach far beyond athletics.
Construction workers are laying down the ground work for phase two of Austintown Fitch's stadium renovation project. Phase two will focus on improving amenities such as, new locker rooms, bathroom facilities, a handicap accessible elevator, and a storage area.
In phase three, an indoor training facility will be on the horizon. Austintown School's Head of Operation and Facilities, Matt Bostian, said the indoor facility will go beyond just sports.
"It also can be used for other things too. Our band, our drone class and other forms, [it's not just] athletes [that] can go in there. It's going to be an all school use," Bastian said.
The entire project has a price tag of 15 million dollars. Which is being financed by fund raising and capital project funds-a financial resource that is set aside to specifically finance projects like this.
Phase one has been completed which included a new press box and stadium bleachers that can seat 5,000 people. Officials expect the stadium improvements to be completed in the fall of 2024 and hoping to break ground on the indoor training facility next month.
