Youngstown City Council candidate alleges 'nearly two dozen' campaign sign thefts
A candidate for Youngstown City Council is alleging that nearly two dozen signs advertising her campaign have been stolen from people's yards.
According to a news release, 7th Ward Council candidate, Josie Lyon has suffered "a rash of political yard sign thefts" with the latest victim being located at a home on Sheridan Road in the Brownlee Woods neighborhood.
The resident believes the sign was either taken late Thursday night or Friday morning last week. Additionally, a second sign was allegedly stolen from a nearby house and was stuffed in a nearby storm drain.
Lyon tells 21 News this has been an ongoing issue since September. She says she doesn't know who's behind this, but wants to remind folks that stealing political yard signs can result in some serious consequences.
"It is a crime to stake political yard signs and I think a lot of people forget that," Lyon said.
Lyon met with the Youngstown Police Department on Friday to report the string of thefts and also posted an incident report to the Ring neighborhood network asking anyone with a Ring doorbell camera to come forward with any evidence of who is taking the signs.
Anyone with any information on who may be behind these thefts can call 330-203-1720 or email [email protected].
Lyon is running for Youngstown 7th Ward Council as a Republican along with incumbent Democratic Councilwoman, Basia Adamczak and non-partisan candidate, Amber White.
